Kundakala is very proud to announce our collaboration with Jay Keogh – a brilliant upcoming artist. This  interpretation of Kunda Kirloskar’s Prabhoda flower design, won the UK wide scarf design contest. In the artist-designer’s own words:

“When I viewed the pieces sent through I was immediately drawn to the flowers because of the intensity of the colours used by the artist. In my mind the use of the vibrant reds and yellows evoke the heat of the sun with a cooling contrast of the greens used for the leaves.
The technique used to depict the flowers creates a lot of visual movement bringing them to life so much that one can almost sense their scent as it floats in the heat of the Indian sun.

I was inspired to interpret the original painting enhancing the strength of the colours so that they would really dance to the eye when used in a repeated pattern. To contrast the conventional feel of the painting, I decided to combine that traditional paint style with a digital technology and scanned in my version to then manipulate the areas of colour into defined geometric shapes. The resulting final piece I think emphasises the intensity of the original colours and when worn the scarf will allow the flowers to come alive and flow with the movement of the wearer.”

The scarf is on Lizzy Bizzy fabric which is predominantly cotton with some polyester threads. Size: 200cm x 82 cm.
All our scarves are packaged in sustainable fabric pouches called “Batwas” in India
